Haute Route Pyrénéenne (HRP)

Cross the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. The HRP has a reputation for being one of the toughest, but also one of the most worthwhile, long-distance trails in Europe.

Had your fill of easy, waymarked trails in Europe? Looking for something a bit more adventurous? The HRP is calling.

Calling it a trail is a bit of a stretch, though, since about 30% of the route is off-trail, which is exactly what I'm looking forward to most. Sure, there are beautiful huts where you can stop for a cappuccino, but there are also wild valleys devoid of tourists and fun scrambles over once forgotten passes.

Good fitness, it's a steep trail with lots of gain. Some overnight backpacking experience (there are huts but I'd want to wild camp a lot)
